The MPro 120 Pocket Projector has been launched by 3M. It’s official launch date was the 1st of September with a retail price of £299.

The specifications for the MPro 120 are now confirmed. It is a full VGA output (640 x 480 pixels) device & the picture quality & brightness will be improved over the MPro 110. It also has 2 integrated half watt speakers & much improved battery life. It’s the first device to be based on 3M’s mmm200 LCOS (Liquid Crystal on Silicon) micro projector engine.

The manufacturers claim that it is the industries only full VGA ‘high brightness’ pocket projecter. The MPro 120 has a built in drop down stand & is supplied with a tripod, it’s also finished in a soft touch, high gloss coating.

T10 Pocket Projector

The Aiptek T10 Pocket Projector is much better looking than the V10, however even though it is technically a widescreen (16:9) device, the resolution is a pathetic 640 x 360 – you could achieve this by adding some black tape to any of the full VGA devices to ‘hide’ 25% of the display. Battery life isn’t bad, picture quality isn’t bad & build quality isn’t bad. That’s the thing with the T10 though – it’s just ‘not bad’ – that really doesn’t mean it’s good though – we’d describe it as an uninspiring adequate.

PK101 Pocket Projector

The Optoma PK101 pocket projector is a really nice looking bit of kit. It comes with 2 batteries as standard, so you potentially have 4 hours of usage without needing an external power source (& when you do need to recharge it – this can be done via USB). Performance is quite good with 1000:1 contrast ratio & an image of up to 60 inches. The focusing wheel is poor as is the sound quality – but you wouldn’t realistically expect high quality sound from a device this small.

V10 Pocket Projector

The Aiptek V10 Pocket Projector is Aipteks first pocket projector. It’s probably the best featured of all the ‘first release’ however – it’s really not that great. The battery life is very poor at around 50 minutes, the inbuilt media player is lacking some very basic features like fast forward & rewind – this makes it impossible to watch a full length movie even with a couple of spare batteries – as each time you replace the battery it starts again from the beginning. All in all, this is a bit of a disappointment.

MPro 110 Pocket Projector

The MPro 110 is 3M’s first pocket projector. It is LED driven & powered by either the on-board Lithium-Ion battery or directly from the mains. Battery life is 60 minutes in continuous use.

The native resolution of this device is 640 x 480 (VGA) – so you won’t be getting HD Quality from it, However, it can handle inputs up to 1280 x 768 (WXGA) & it down scales gracefully whilst projecting an image up to 50″.

This product has now been superceded by the MPro 120 Pocket Projector
